Thanks to all for the information. My conclusion is that I am over oiling
which is something I will remedy immediately.

However, my clarinets range in vintage from 1897 to 1996. Mostly Buffets.
Even though Buffet does not recommend oiling the newer instruments, what
should I do about the my older ones?

I (too) have noticed that the older ones dry-up faster.
