The voice, aside (and I realize that was the point of the posts) Pavarotti
shouldn't doL'Elisir on video any more. In the closeups, he doesn't cut it
as a love-struck young man. The same was true, of course, of Dame
Sutherland in Lucia in her (I think) final performance (or one of her final
performances) at the Met. Closeups decry her as a 16 year old sweet young
thing, going coocoo. I have no problem with the audio tracks of either.
They're both brilliantly sung, but face it: Pavarotti is a bit over the
hill for the part. Roberto Aligna makes a much more convincing Nemorino.
