Recent experiments have shown that at least one part of the instrument will
take with advantage a greater piece of wood than it generally receives.
That is the bell.
It has been demonstrated that a bell of substantial. but carefully
adjusted thickness will give better nourished bottom notes than one of
meagre proportions.
Speaking of the Amsterdam clarinet maker GEISLER, the bell of his clarinets
were very particular.
Many clarinets that had not volumne enough were enormously improved after
being fitted with a bell joint of Geisler to them.
