It is no secret that the rubber that mouthpieces are made from emits sulfur.

Just open a new box of bass clarinet blanks - phew - rotten eggs.

It's also the sulfur leaching out of the rubber that gives old mouthpieces that lovely "patina", a yellowish discoloration.

What a thing to discuss while I'm drinking my morning coffee....yuck!
