One can be a good musician, but not be a good clarinetist. One can be a
good clarinetist (technically), but not a good musician. However, a good
calrinetist is usually also a good musician. Anotherwards, a good
clarinetist is technically proficient on his/her instrument, and musical.

I had a summer (just 1 summer) Clarinet Student who had won the Philadelphia
Orchestra Student Competition on Piano that year, yet didn't even make the
local Regional Band in competition on Clarinet. So she was a wonderful
musician, but her Clarinet playing still needed work......
