Not only has my Bb clarinet been "Morrie-sized" with a new bell and
barrel of Morrie Backun that I bought in Norman at the Symposium, but
Morrie has also overhauled my A clarinet and customized the joints so
that the bell and barrel I bought for the Bb fit the A. I just got the A
clarinet back today. My A clarinet has never sounded so spectacular, and
I don't know how I ever played it before. It was awul. No wonder I used
to get nervous at auditions. I will be playing "Introduction and
Allegro" by Ravel in San Francisco with my sister, flutist Jane Lenoir
on Saturday Oct 11, and I am really excited about playing my A clarinet.
I'm not sure, but I believe that nearly all of the clarinetists from the
Denver Symphony and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic play with the
combo of Morrie Backun's barrels and bells. Actually, that sort of
annoys me, because I thought I was part of a unique trend, not
"identical" to a bunch of orchestral clarinetists. ANNIE
