This doesn't answer your question directly, but I'd suggest you also
contact the head of the arts management program at your school for contact
names. Most programs of that nature have industry advisory panels made up
of people in the industry. (if they don't, that would be somewhat telling
in itself) Usually the school will ask what set of skills do you need when
hiring a person and they incorporate that information into the
program. I'm on a couple of these panels and get occasional phone
calls from either students or potential students wanting to know the "real
deal."

As far as the music-ed and economics, that isn't a bad combination. I
picked up a MS in economics in the early 90's and economists are becoming a
bit like lawyers in that we are into everything....g
