A week or so ago, I was startting to feel sad that I have made no
progress in learning this Brazillian "Choro" music. I can't seem to find
a guitar player who can play well enough to play this music, and I was
"down". Somehow, I came across Paulo Sergio Santos' email address, and I
wrote him and told him how much I loved him and his clarinet playing,
and how much his music meant to me. I had seen him perform at the
Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium in 2000 and had purchased his CD then,
"Segura Ele". Well, he wrote back to me and said he was sending me
another CD. I got the CD today, and it is absolutely out-of-this-world.
He plays on the CD with guitarist Caio Marcio and percussionist Oscar
Bolao and I just can't get enough of it. I love every tune on the CD and
plan to transcribe most of them so I can attempt to play them. My hips
have started to sway to the beautiful syncopation of "Samba Chorada".
The CD can be ordered from www.kuarup.com.br and its catalogue number
is KDC 155. I am planning to place an order for at least 10 of these
CD's to send out as gifts to people. This is the kind of music that is
so universal that it can be played on the streets or in a concert hall
and bring joy to all. ANNIE
