Several things need to be said about the word "scam":

(1) The fellow who typed it is one of the more pleasant & even-tempered
fellows on this list. He is also knowledgeable, being a craftsman who
both repairs and manufactures. The fact that he in particular would
use such a strong word should be a clue to you, Bryan, that the price
truly is too high.

(2) Equally as important, your original post indicated that $2500 is a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity --- a "steal". Flamboyant and
inaccurate sales pitches are the standard approach used by scam artists.
Anyone with the slightest knowledge knows you don't pay $5000 for an
R-13 or one of its direct competitors. Therefore it was reasonable to
question your intent.

When I read your original post, my own response was to look up your name
on eBay. I was expecting to find that you are a dealer with dozens of
items on sale --- probably everything from collectible memorabilia to
used cars. That's the image that your post conveyed.

(3) Nobody who says to another person's face "You are an asshole" is
going to be received aa a nice person.
