Buffet has indeed become the
standard to beat, though. Some clarinets meet the standard, others exceed
it, still others fall short. Of course, whether a given instrument meets,
exceeds, or fails is totally in the judgement of the individual doing the
testing.

I'm just glad that I'm not in the market for a new instrument! There are
many great models out there and many brands which meet or exceed the
'standard'. I certainly believe that the other brands have invested a lot
more effort in R&D to improve their models to be at least as good if not
better.
