think someone else here once mentioned that Gigliotti began on Selmer and
migrated to Buffet...or was that the other way around?

Other way. Buffet was always the standard to compare against and to beat.
Same for the old Chedeville Mouthpiece - most are compared to it and are
designed with that in mind. You rarely see a comparison to anything but the
Buffet as the standard to beat. And it was Klose with Buffet who designed
the current system of fingering (Boehm) - correct me if I'm wrong but I
remember reading that one.
