Subj: [kl] Klezmer Recording - New

With all the recent discussion of Klezmer, I wonder if anyone else is
familiar with a recording that has given me a great deal of pleasure. I
should point out that I have no credentials at all in Klezmer, either as a
performer or from cultural familiarity. I just like the style.

At any rate, my wife bought this CD for me after checking carefully that it
wasn't one I already owned - no easy task.

It is called, "Klezmer Nutcracker Shirim" and has Klezmer versions of 7
items from the Nutcracker Suite. It also includes, "Gustav's Wedding" with
themes from Mahler's first symphony and one of my favorites, "Romanian
Rhapsody (no. 1) by Enesco and about 6 other tracks.

The group, "Shirim", apparently works out of Boston.

The recording is NPD 85640 on Newport Classic label.
