The problem is not that Buffet gets badmouthed. If there was that much
negative press on them, sales and reputation would suffer. The facts show
that this is not the case. In fact, quite another situation has
developed. The Buffet instruments get GOBS of good press/word of mouth,
not so much undeserved, but all out of proportion to what they do deserve,
relative to other equally deserving instruments. We are not questioning
Buffet's well-deserved reputation for quality so much as their overwhelming
dominance in at least SOME markets and the reasons for it, possibly reasons
BEYOND their own merits. For example, in Michigan, it appears that ONLY the
Holton Farkas French horn is considered appropriate for serious
study. This is allegedly because the horn instructor at the University of
Michigan says so, and that is that. (And note that such pressure does not
depend upon the TRUTH of the allegation, only its strength and frequency of
repetition.)

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
