What strikes me most about the idea of an accurate, objective, so-called
scientific evaluation of the proportion of people playing Buffet
clarinets in various locations -- were one to be made -- is how little
use this information would then be for almost all of our purposes.

If we were considering investing in Buffet-Crampon, or working to
promote their market penetration, it might be different.

Scientific enquiry isn't really about amassing information. Surely it's
about finding appropriate questions, the answers to which would increase
our understanding of the world -- and then answering them.
