I had a similar experience trying to match a mouthpiece to me and my R13, though still with Vandoren. I had been playing on a B45 and in trying a friend's M13 found that I had a much better tone. So I tried a bunch of other mouthpieces and found that I really clicked with the Vandoren M15 (who knew?). A couple of weeks later (last week) I had my second lesson and I didn't tell the teacher. After playing some scales he looked at me with an astounded look and said "What are you doing differently from last time?" He said my sound had vastly improved.

In fact, my friend tried it on her Leblanc and liked it much better than her 5RV-Lyre, so she ordered one as well. However, the one she got was not the 13 series (even though the box said so) and she was tending toward the sharp side, so she swapped it for the right one and is also quite happy now apparently.
