<hey Ken

<that is exactly what I plan on doing. I have started getting my wife
<mentally prepared for the sticker shock and I have started a little =
"mad
<money" fund in my top desk drawer at work. I hope that I have the good =
sense
<to ask the price BEFORE the vendor hears me say WOW
<Tim P

I always have a mad money fund going. I spent most of this year's on =
barrels and bells from Morrie Backun for my Patricola clarinets. The =
huge sound from his equipment makes the clarinets more suitable for =
symphony work and I don't have to work so hard to be heard. I do more =
chamber and pit work than big orchestral stuff and that was one of the =
reasons I decided on rosewood. Now I have to save enough to buy them =
for my C clarinet. My feeling is that Morrie's stuff is the =
continuation of an accessories revolution in the clarinet world. First =
it was ligatures, and then Legeres, and now it's barrels and bells. He =
has so many different kinds and they do different things. I spent two =
days at his table playing around with all of his toys. I'm waiting for =
someone to invent a snap-on reed or an all-in-one =
reed-ligature-mouthpiece out of some cheap polymer. And how about an =
electric clarinet as flexible as an electric guitar - you know, with an =
over-the-should strap so that it is suspended from about hip level.
