You don't ever stop the air. You've got to keep the flow going even if it's
not coming out of your horn. If you stop the air after every 16th note like
that, you could hyperventilate. Okay, maybe not after just one measure, but
if you had a long passage like that...
And that's just a side effect. It's for continuity and speed if you need
it. And it's easier, too. That's to say nothing of the difference it makes
to the sound. Don't stop the air until you've got time enough to breathe.
