Subject: [kl] Quintets. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for
clarinet quintet music? ... 5 clarinettists at conservatory/college level
who need some suggestions.

Quintets for four clarinets and bass? Yes, there is a shortage, so we have
made arrangements of good, appropriate music and play quintets quite
frequently. It is not a problem that you can fix in a hurry. The repertoire
we play includes K 411 (American arrangement), string quintets
(Schubert, Beethoven Op 29, Mozart K 174, 514, 515, Michael
Haydn (2), Mozart's Horn Quintet, brass quintets (3 by Ewald) and
wind quintets. (Just a small sample). Fuchs's Clarinet Quintet.
The Arpeggione Sonata arrangement came from Australia, and there
was once a professional clarinet quintet in Budapest in the 1990s,
(on Naxos 8.553427). I played Brahms's Sextet Op 18 with them in
Wales, unbelievably. May I repeat the message that Scandinavian
MICs are very co-operative? The Swedish composer Sixten Liedbeck
has written a Marcia Burlesca for five clarinets, just a small piece.
