Against my better judgement, I start off from the very beginning with
"du-du-du-du-du-" because the band program is geared towards
articulating. Someimes i feel as though the band directors are trying to
have each note sound as though they are stabbing it with a knife. I have
a couple of 10-year-olds who can slur their one-octave scales (concert
Bb, Eb & Ab) and also articulate them with legato, up and down. I have
one 6th grader, an 11-year-old, who can play all three scales up-&-down
for 2 ocataves. Her Gb concert scale is just about there.
If I were not participating in the district band program as a
sectional rehearsal person and "band-aid", I would just stick with the
Galper Method for a couple of years. ANNIE
