One more suggestion: listen to clarinettists that you like and try to get
your mouth to make it sound the same - try different ways till it sounds
like it. I had a helluva time to get the slide you hear in klezmer and the
sob effects (the mechanics of which were also described to me) - truth is,
I'm still working on them and other difficult-to-master techniques (for me),
but practice and practice is getting me closer. I thought klezmer was
addicting but some lovely pusher generously filled sections of my hard-drive
with much AMAZING Armenian, Turkish and Greek clarinetting that will entice
the most recalcitrant snakes out of baskets. Unbelievable that they can get
those sounds out of a clarinet.
