Apart from all the reasons given such as good padding etc.,the main culprit
is the lack of sufficient air support in the low register.
You can try an experiment: play low Bb very softly and then try to go up a
twelfth to F. The F will hardly come out.
Now blow the low Bb stronger and try the same thing. The upper F will come a
lot easier.
One has to build up a strong low register( with a nice tone,of course) and
then many of these difficulties will disappear. AG
