Dear Ken,

Klezmer's where it's at. Get Khevrisa's CD, "European Klezmer Music", lead
by violinist Steve Greenman, backed up by the likes of Alicia Svigls (my
hero!) and Zev Feldman and others. It's all strings, wonderful, haunting,
early traditional klezmer. Also any of the Klezmatics' CD's are FABULOUS.
Then of course there's Winnipeg's own Fin Jam - excellent. And Itzak
Perlman's "In The Fiddler's House" and "Live in the Fiddler's House", which
showcase Itzak's virtuosity with various klezmer bands (The Klezmatics, The
Klezmer Conservatory Band, Brave Old World, Andy Statman). You HAVE to hear
Lorin Sclumberg sing - he's a tenor with the Klezmatics - you haven't heard
anyone sing till you've heard this guy.

It's addicting - watch out. You'll be wishing you had taken up the violin
instead.

Mary (trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear) Lowther
