Without meaning to praise such blather (and this is drifting off-topic),
I've never been able to forget some words from an Irish flute primer:

"Only by doing [such-and-such] can a learner see how to put his or her
heart into the music and play it as it is meant to be --- traditional, a
line to the past. 'TIMBER!' is an often-heard insupressable cry from
exultant listeners in Connacht when the flute music and the soul concur
on a high point of cultural ecstasy close to tears. The essence of the
tradition."
