Pioneer English clarinettist Pauline Juler died last week.
She was born in 1914 and had early lessons from Charles
Draper. She played with many legendary players such as
Goossens and Brain. Finzi's Concerto was intended for
her after her premiere of the first four Bagatelles. In 1948
she married and that ended her career as a performer.
There is only one commercial recording of her:
Ferguson's Octet (1933, Decca 78s) transferred to Dutton
Lab CDAX 8014.
