I must put my oar in. My embochure changes radically from mouthpiece to
mouthpiece and I found that to produce a mellow tone I used to get with an
O'Brien #5 back in the good old days when a Vandoren #2 1/2 really was one,
and before my daughter broke the mouthpiece, I want a hard reed on a B45.
But then I have to bite so hard that the reed turns to mush real quick, so
I've turned to Vandoren's RV lyre with #4 Vandoren reeds (which are a poor
facsimile of their old 2 1/2's) but I feel choked up and very uncomfortable.
I've got an order in to my music man for a Fobes Debut, recommended by
someone on this site (thank you very much) and I'll see how it works.
