I have also been doubling on sax and flute for many years, so for me,
personally, single lip works best. I don't know how I have been able to
do it, but I can play as well and as evenly with single lip as with
double. Jon Manasse also plays with single lip even thought he is a
David Weber student. Because of my respect of an individual's right to
choose their own embochure for their own personal method of performance,
I would never say that "this" or "that" embochure is the best. As I said
recently, my best clarinet student does not appear to have a chin, and
he doesn't point his chin. I have heard some gorgeous clarinet tones
produced by players who appeared to have terrible looking embochures. I
don't know how they do it. I am going to try not to worry about it.
