I've been doing a fair amount of that lately, including even dubbing 78 rpm
recordings. I have the "DC-Art Millennium" program
(http://www.diamondcut.com/) for doing the recording, which has extensive
digital filters for improving sound and removing scratches, ticks and
pops. For LP's in good condition, or for dubbing tapes, the simpler Easy
CD Creator is probably sufficient. It comes included with many computers
and CD -RW drives. Anybody who can work a computer and has dubbed an LP to
tape before should be able to handle the process. I am using the sound
card that came with my HP computer, and I have no reason to assume is is a
particularly premium unit. It works fine.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
