FWIW, Howard Klug offered the advice that one - even a clarinettist -
should tune to a d minor chord, flatten the sounding 'f' by pulling
out at the barrel if necessary, and flatten the sounding 'a' by
pulling out at the middle. I have tried this myself and with my
students and have found the advice excellent.

So ... yes ... never say never.
