For what it's worth, I have crowns on three of my four
front upper teeth (due to an unfortunate incident involving
me passing out while trying to play the clarinet; see
http://www.woodwind.org/Databases/Logs/2001/07/000227.txt).

I made sure my dentist knew I was a clarinet player, and he
used porcelain-over-metal crowns for strength. They feel
fine to me when I play, and I don't notice any more vibrations
than before. The only bad part about playing the clarinet again
was how out of shape I was after a five-week layoff due to the
teeth incident and the respiratory illness that led to my
passing out.
