This sounds like a good old-fashioned program. I hope that it went well.
I played the Kalinnikov in high school and was sufficiently impressed to
look for a recording of the original "real" work. The only recording in the
catalogue was by Kyril Kondrashin and the Moscow State Symphony. In those
days (1963 - 65) no local store wanted to order an album from Russia. It
took nearly two years to get it. It was worth it - I still play it. It is
a very nice work - possibly my favorite Russian symphony. His 2nd and 3rd
symphonies aren't as good, though.
