Regarding beginning clarinet,
Mr. Galper's books, Leger reeds,
and a thought on developing tone.
--------------------------------

Upon her insistence, I had started my
7 year old daughter on clarinet.
.
Finger were far too small for a b clarinet,
so she is on my buffet Eb....fits fine.

Used Mr Galpers books exclusively.

I find the balance of material, and progression
very well thought out. Very highly recommend it.
Geat book for beginning clarinetist.

Also, Mr. legere had sent 3 of his synthetic reeds
for eb. So she always had a flat, balanced reed
to start, 100% of the time. Many thanks to
Mr. Legere, he makes a valuable product.
I think it is a great asset to start on
working equipment, instead of as I had,
starting with a leaking old clarinet, $5
quasi mouthpiece shaped object,
and warped, unbalanced reeds.

Also, I think sound is much in the ear, more so
then in embouchure development, etc...etc....
Listening is so very important.

True, she was on a pro clarinet,
& a decent mouthpiece, but as a 7 year old
playing for the first time, I never expected
such tone to come quickly. Having heard
clarinet up close and personnel all her life,
I think she had a very clear image in her brain
of what sound she was searching for.
We find a way to produce what is in our head.

Cheers
