Subj: [kl] Instruction books for new student
Date: Fri, 1 Aug 2003 19:38:37 -0400

Annie and anyone else who uses Mr. Galper's method,

I have a new student who has never even seen a clarinet yet. He is coming
to my studio tomorrow morning to investigate starting lessons. While I
don't like using students as guinea pigs, I want to start him exclusively
with Mr. Galper's books. Has/have any others on the list taught students
exclusively by this method? I am interested in knowing how kids do when
not exposed to the standard method books. I have used Mr. Galper's books
as supplemental material and my kids love them. I am just wondering about
doing this exclusively and hate to start this kid with books that are
totally different than the way I teach the other kids in my studio (you
know, Joey has such and such book and I want to play the same thing), but
since this boy knows zilch, I figured he wouldn't know the difference until
maybe mid-October when the school band programs really get coordinated. By
then, hopefully he would be far enough along to see the advantage of Mr.
Galper's method. I teach four of his friends. He is almost twelve and
seems very much interested in the clarinet, as opposed to all the other
instruments. His father is one of my swimming students at my day job. The
kid listens to Eddie Daniels constantly and loves jazz. So what do you
think? And Mr. Galper, if you want to chime in I would be most
appreciative. TIA.

Nancy
