Chantelle,
I can completely relate to having to regain control. I broke the 5th
metacarpal of my right hand almost 4 weeks ago. I am having to re-teach my
pinky what to do while allowing it time to regain the strength necessary to
function properly. My embouchure suffered slightly. After several days of
long tones and slow scales, it is back in shape and my pinky is regaining
its dexterity. When I started to play again, I focused on the chalumeau
register primarily - getting a good focused sound that was in tune. I also
find that playing slurred 12ths in addition to long tones really helps with
the upper register.
