Most virus checkers today have an "automatic download" feature that will
update them every week or so (every major update). However, with that
quantity you might want to do it manually, in between major updates.

With the quantity of mail I have (only slightly higher than yours on this
machine - work has their own system) I manually update every 2 or 3 days,
but I believe most people will do fine on the automagic update.
