Subj: [kl] Mostly Mozart - Rabbai's Instrument
Date: Wed, 30 Jul 2003 20:11:23 -0400

I loved the Mostly Mozart concert last night. Everything was top notch.
The Beethoven 4th was amazing. Except for the slight splat on the
opening chord, the ensemble was perfect. The tempo in the finale was
the fastest I've heard.

I noticed that Rabbai's clarinet was not the typical Buffet or other
French instrument as soon as I saw it, since the barrel was too short.
Then I noticed the extra mechanism for the throat Bb, and eventually
they had a wide enough shot to show the extra key pad between the F and
E holes at the bottom, which identified it as a Reform Boehm. This has
a German-shape bore, sized in between the French and German bores, with
a tone quality that's also a mix of the two. I couldn't see a
trademark, but it's probably a Wurlitzer.

Best regards.
