For those of you who saw and heard the Mostly Mozart orchestra, the
wonderful first clarinetist you heard was Joe Rabbai. He and I have been
friends and colleagues for many years and it was a pleasure to hear him
playing so very well, particularly during the Beethoven 4.

Joe was first with the Israel Philharmonic many years ago and, despite
his orchestral affiliation and name, he is an Italian Catholic!! And
though we don't see each other very often, the last I bumped into him in
NY, he was coprincipal at the Met.

The performance of the Beethoven 4 was made particularly interesting and
made so by the inclusion of every repeat, something that many performers
simply dismiss as unimportant.
