Here is what I did about the spam problem:

1) I asked my ISP to rename my existing email address. I picked a new name
that, as far as the ISP could tell, had never been used before, and wasn't
obvious such that a spammer can randomly guess. I only give this new address to
people/organizations that I know don't share their address lists or have a
public archive. I do not use it to post on public forums. So far, so good; no
spam to date.

2) I got a yahoo address for this list. While the archives on woodwind.org do
not expose the complete address, I suppose a spammer could subscribe and
harvest email addresses from the posts received. Since this is not my "private"
email address per se, if I start to get spam, I won't worry too much about it.
Plus if I had to, I could set a filter that excludes anything not coming from
this list.
