Speaking of civic bands, I'm also wondering what other civic bands do =
for
traditions, theme concerts, etc... Our band has a kiddie parade for =
every
concert. One kid gets to lead the parade and holds a flag and they all =
get
to march across the stage while we play. This year, our local Culver's
donated kids meals for us to give away. Each kid gets a number and 3
numbers get picked out of a hat to determine the winners. Culver's has =
also
advertised our band concerts on their electronic signboard! We're right =
up
there with the daily temperature now!
Occasionally we feature certain sections of the band. The band =
director
got a note stuck on the door of the bandshell this week with the =
suggestion
that we do a "Christmas in July" concert. My guess is that one of the =
local
merchants came up with that idea to drum up some business in July. =20
Every July our town used to have a week of "mad market day"-sort of =
like
Sidewalk Sale Days. For the concert in that week, we all dressed in =
costume
but we dropped that this year. Spoilsports! =20
Our last concert of the season always includes a picnic in a local =
park,
which I always seem to be on vacation for the last few years. =20
