I don't know about the Iraq Symphony, but the Baghdad School of Music
was looted just following its liberation. No people were hurt, but all
the instruments were stolen or destroyed (apparently, and idiotically,
mostly the latter).

The school received a shipment of used instruments from Norway a
couple of months prior to the looting. Because of this the
incident received pretty wide coverage in the Norwegian press.
