David Schifrin played a few bars of the Mozart ending with the orchestra at
the ClarinetFest, as I usually do. It gives us something to do whilst
waiting for the tumultuous applause. I hate just standing there looking
like a twit. Actually I sometimes play bits and pieces of the long
orchestral opening of the first movement, just to check pitches and tempo.
Mozart was not unfamiliar with Baroque practices of the Concerto Grosso, so
this kind of noodling was not uncommon. After all, why are all the
orchestral interludes written out in the clarinet part in most editions?

I'm doing both the Mozart and the Bruch Double Concerto on December 20th
with the La Mirada SO, BTW.... 48 minutes of playing! Ouch!!
