Many thanks to all who answered my question. My concern about the tempo was
that I felt most comfortable musically with the marked tempo of 100 or a
little faster (110?).

Although I am NOT a member of the "I can play anything faster than you"
group, I thought that at my age, maybe conventional tempi had increased for
some "virtuoso" showpiece during the many years that I was absent from the
music scene.

I am most gratified that your replies reinforced my belief that when speed
detracts from the quality of the musical performance, you are playing too
fast (no matter how damned fast you can play.)
