Of course, this would be the traditional approach. Certainly my teacher,
40+ years ago would have reacted the same way.

A lot of kids today have short attention spans and don't want to play by
the traditional rules. This was probably true 40 years ago too, but few
of those kids lasted long in band, and those that remained didn't take
lessons. I remember some that seemed perfectly happy to play third
clarinet in the junior high band and were thrilled by being able to play
"Moon River" from the vocal/piano music.

This girl will probably never be a good clarinetist. But the question is,
can she and Anne come to some arrangement where the lessons will be
satisfactory (dare, I say enjoyable) for both?
