ok, pardon my typos. yes half of a half note is one
full beat therefor a dotted half note equals three
full beats. half of a quarter note is an eighth note
which is one and two, half of an eighth note is a
sixteenth note, and so on. the math is correct here.
sorry about any confusion, my brain was a little ahead
of what i wrote.

in george crumb's star child all time signatures in
all parts are notated with with number over note. i
thought it was a little helpful and i know that others
felt the same way.
