I have decided that I want to record some of the Mozart Basset Hound
trios. Trouble is, I don't know anyone else with a hound and therefore I
am going to have to play all three parts!

Is there any reasonably easy way of doing this by recording one part at
a time? If so, what would I need? Can it be done via mini-disc?

Hi Matthew!

Sounds like your onto something great!! I am doing the exact same thing!
(well... almost). I just finished recording a CD that will be released in a
few weeks, and the title track features Peter Schickele's Monochrome III
written for 9 B-flat Clarinets. It's a great piece if none of you have heard
it and it only took a few hours to get all 9 tracks recorded (yes, nine
whole different parts, all done by 1 person).

I did it all in my home studio using my computer, a free trial version of
multi-track recording software that I downloaded from the internet that also
has post-production & sound mastering capability, and a high quality
Microphone that I bought with my Mini-disc player a few years ago. I could
probably give you some tips in what to look out for when doing this and how
to make it a success.

If you're interested, I can rip a sample clip from the CD for you in MP3
format so you'll have an idea of what your results could be, and I would be
happy to help you in any way that I can... telling you the steps you should
take to take some experimentation out of it. It's a free solution to your
problem, but it'll take some effort on your part to actually do it (of
course).

Just let me know what I can do, if anything!
