So, what about going to a local sound pro's studio and having him do the
recording work while Matthew takes care of the playing part? High school
kids in my area often have audition recordings put together by pro sound
engineers. The cost (which wasn't by any means extravagant when my son
needed to make an audition CD a few years ago) will end up less than the
cost of buying decent equipment, and the engineer's experience will avoid
wasting time in novice experimentation.

Unless, Matt, you consider the time and expense as an investment in
something you want to continue doing after this project is finished.
