'Being clueless' is not equivalent to 'being oblivious to your
cluelessness'. Thus Dave Kumpf's statement about cluelessness in the
abstract might usefully alert someone to their possible cluelessness.
They'd still be clueless, but beginning to be aware of it.

Then they can get to say, "I'm clueless!" and realise, perhaps,
something they can do about that, too.

In this case, about sound, listening to other players might be a
beginning.

By the way, the point of all this is to say something useful -- as Dave
did. I was simply responding in a civilised fashion to your:

"That's comforting. ;-)"

...which looked ironic. And thoughtless. And flip.

And indeed, unfortunately turned out to be ironic. And thoughtless.
