Sue...

You have to WARN me before you say things like that out of the
blue! The Coca Cola went right through my nose, and across the
room. A nice disclaimer of "this is funny...swallow before
reading" would suffice <wink>!

Christy...

If your son likes to sing, might I suggest a boy's choir at a
church, even if it is not necessarily your faith. There are MANY
Episcopal churches that have amazing boy's choirs. Also,
depending on where you are, there are boy's choirs that do
symphonic works with the local symphonies when they need them,
etc...

If neither of these are available, I would wholeheartedly
suggest "Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of
Barber Shop Singing in America" http://www.spebsqsa.org

This is basically the mens/boys group that does barber shop
quartet singing, and they have all ages, and I mean ALL ages of
guys singing. When your son's voice changes, he can move to
another part (if needed) so he can continue to sing with the
same group. The group doesn't require reading music and will
help him learn ALL of the music at his pace.

I always think it is rare for boys to like singing, since it is
instilled at a young age that singing "is for girls" by
different parts of society (same could be said for clarinet and
flute.) I wanted to sing at an early age regardless of who was
singing, and I think it really nurtured my love of music in a
way that I couldn't get playing instruments (I also played piano
at that point - pre-woodwinds though.) Having a lot of singing
men really is a good influence for a future male musician,
whether professional of hobby only. If he listens to music that
much, he might be our next Bernstein (composer or conductor.)
