I do not believe that it is "cheating" to have the student pratically
"memorize" a little pattern that you teach them. For instance, Howard
Klug, on our list, has some "Chalameau Studies" available from his
Woodwindiana, inc. series, by Randall L. Cunningham, that are all
gorgeous melodies suitable for age 8-75. Since "memorization" has been
mentioned quite a bit lately, I think that now is a perfect time to
bring up the topic of "memorizing" short phrases, perhaps entire short
etudes, that are suitable for young students, as well as the "young at
heart". Just shout out "Howard Klug, are you out there?" I owe him some
