Yeah, our band camp was held at our school too. Band
director just didn't see the point of taking us away
somewhere. Also didn't see the point about having all
day practices.....which I always was thankful for.

See, we started band right after the 4th of july.
somethin like 9 hours a week (two days, 4 1/2 hours).
Concentrated on memorizing music for the most part,
but also the marching fundamentals. That way, when
band camp came (first week of august), all we had to
do was start learning drill for the music we'd
memorized. and it was in the evening....thank
goodness. 5 hours in the daytime florida weather would
not have been fun.

I like the way this worked. and we were good too.

I did hear that the principal that was real supportive
of the band program when I was in high school retired
in March. wonder how that's going to work. I just hope
for those students in the program now that the new
principal will care just as much.
