Tim and Sue, Come now! I went to school in the 70's also. We had a
dynamite band director who took us marching during the entire 6 week =
summer
school session in the city streets near the school for practice. We did
half-time shows for most of the home football games but I really don't
remember when we practiced. I think he used our band classes in school =
to
take us out to the football field to rehearse. We didn't have anything =
we
called a band camp either for marching.
We marched in 1976 at Disney World and we couldn't have been too bad
since we got invited back to play for the July 4th Disney World parade. =
Our
uniforms were new (purchased with proceeds from endless fruit sales) and
made of wool. Lucky us! We did lose a few marchers in those parades, =
even
with the fans strategically placed along the route and parents squirting =
us
with water bottles. Incidentally, the first trip to Disney was financed
with fruit sales also (can you tell I'm tired of grapefruit and =
oranges?).
The second time around we had a local man who financed most of the trip =
for
us-must have been a gigantic tax write off for him! He had a heart of =
gold!
